10,347 new COVID-19 cases in Florida on Monday

The Florida Department of Health announced 10,347 new cases of COVID-19 in the state on Monday, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 360,394 since the pandemic began. The number of reported deaths of Florida residents rose by 90 to 5,072.

Today marks the sixth day in a row that Florida has seen more than 10,000 daily new cases, and the 13th day total since the beginning of July.

Sarasota County’s numbers rose by 93 cases since Sunday, for a total of 4,338. Manatee County had 169 new cases, for a total of 6,738. One new death was reported in Sarasota County, with total deaths reaching 107. There was also one new death reported in Manatee, bringing the total there to 144.

According to a state database, in Sarasota County 156 people are currently hospitalized with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19, aa decerase of one from Sunday. In Manatee County, 109 are hospitalized, an increase of 3.

In Sarasota County, 10% of the new cases reported from July 11-18 were children 18 and under. In Manatee County, 13% werechildren 18 and under.

Cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in the Sarasota-Manatee region, putting more pressure on already stressed local hospitals. And the continued statewide growth is leading to more talk of another shutdown.
