Father Eamon Tobin: Final tributes for beloved Space Coast priest begin Monday
Friends, congregants, and community leaders will pay final respects to Father Eamon Tobin and his lifetime of service to the Roman Catholic Church with a funeral Mass on Tuesday.
The beloved Space Coast priest at Melbourne’s Ascension Catholic Church, one of Brevard's largest Catholic communities, died on New Year’s Day.
He was 73. Services will be held at Ascension Catholic Church, 2950 N. Harbor City Blvd., in Melbourne on Monday and Tuesday.
Tobin, born in Dublin, led several Catholic churches across Central Florida during his time of service. He also authored books, highlighted the importance of the church’s missionary work, and sought to invite non-practicing Catholics back to the faith.
During the 25th anniversary of his time as a priest, Father Tobin said that the priesthood was “a wonderful opportunity to touch people's lives… I am very grateful to have been called to such a noble profession.”
Parishioners and the public – with social distancing – will begin paying final respects Monday with a viewing from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. A vigil service for Father Tobin will begin at 6 p.m. Monday. Masks are required for anyone attending in-person services.
A funeral Mass will be conducted from 10-11:30 a.m. at the church Tuesday. Mass will also be live-streamed on Ascension Catholic Church’s YouTube channel.
