Blue Devil JROTC Raiders Finish Season Strong
The Holmes County JROTC Blue Devil Raider Team competed against Vernon High School and Liberty County High School JROTC programs in the Northwest Florida JROTC Raider Championship Saturday, November 14.. Seventy Cadets from the three schools competed to be the fastest, quickest, strongest and most “technical proficient” in the COVID-19 altered season. The final meet of the Raider season consisted of five events which tested the Cadets strength, endurance, technical proficiency, and team work. The Holmes County High School Blue Devil Battalion started the four-hour competition with a 3.2 mile Team Run followed by a Fitness Challenge and Obstacle Course. Cadets Trenton Simmons and Trey Metzler won the Team Run and placed second in the Freshman Male Category, Cadets Skyler Sapia and Darci Farring placed first in the Fitness Challenge and first place overall in the Varsity Mixed Category. The One-Rope Bridge event tested the Cadets strength, speed and technical knot tying ability; this highly competitive event was won by HCHS Cadets Caleb Weiler and Elanie Alday by .02 seconds over another HCHS team, Cadets Sapia and Farring. The Blue Devil Cadets finished up the competition by testing their endurance in the Cross Country Rescue (CCR), the 1.5 mile litter carry with 25-pound aid/ supply bag. Overall, The Holmes County High School Blue Devil Battalion had a terrific season.
