PANAMA CITY BEACH - Bonifay Fire-Rescue Assistant Chief Travis Cook and Firefighter Dillon Edwards took the annual Panama City Beach 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Fundraiser held Saturday. The proceeds benefit the Emerald Coast First Responders Association and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

The event honors the lives lost in terrorist attack at World Trade Center Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001. More than 3,000 Americans lost their lives in the attack.

"Participants climb 110 flights of stairs, which was the height of the World Trade Center Towers," a BFR social media post stated. "This is an extremely physically challenging event. Assistant Chief Cook and Firefighter Edwards completed the stair climb wearing full turnout gear and an SCBA (air pack)."

Bonifay Fire-Rescue will hold its 9/11 Memorial Service today at 8:30 a.m. at the Bonifay Fire Station.
