WASHINGTON AND HOLMES COUNTIES - With more than 9 million jobs in nonagricultural sectors, Florida has made history. Unemployment numbers in both Washington and Holmes counties continue to decrease.
According to a news release from the Department of Economic Opportunity, the state's unemployment rate was down by 0.1 percentage point from last year, and 0.2 from a year ago. The state gained 227,000 jobs over the year, which is an increase of 2.6 percent.
For Washington County, unemployment rate remained steady from June to July, and showed a decrease of a 0.3 percentage point over July last year. In Holmes, the rate also remained the same for June and July, with a 0.4 percentage point from July last year.
In counties numbers reflect the trend of the region. In the CareerSource Chipola region - Calhoun, Holmes, Jackson, Liberty, and Washington counties - the unemployment rate remained at 3.9 for June and July, which is 0.2 percentage point less than July of last year.
According to CareerSource Chipola, the region's labor force was 42,050, up by 321 year over year. There are 1,628 unemployed residents in the region.
