PONCE DE LEON - The Ponce de Leon Volunteer Fire Department will be going into the future more prepared to battle the blaze.
The department was awarded $38,124 from Florida Firefighter Assistance Grant Program which was established to improve firefighter safety. The department will use the monies to purchase personal protective equipments and five self-containing breathing apparatus (SCBAS).
"We could not do this without their support," said Chief Remmel, thanking the Ponce de Leon city council and all of the members of the VFD.
"Congratulations to Chief Douglas Remmel and Ponce de Leon VFD," Holmes County Board of County Commissioners Chairman Clint Erickson wrote in a social media post Thursday. "Thank you to (Florida Chief Financial Officer and Fire Marshal) Jimmy Patronis and the State Fire Marshal's Office for supporting Holmes County."
