CHIPLEY - A stalwart of the community will be laid to rest Sunday.
Zenna E. Corbin, 71, of Chipley, passed away surrounded by family on Aug. 8. Corbin will be remembered for her selfless service to the local and state community.
"To say I lost my mother today would be quite the understatement. I lost my mother who always wanted to keep the peace in nearly every situation and always taught me that it's important to go to funerals, and weddings and always take time to be with family, and to always give back to your community," David Corbin, her son, wrote in a late night Facebook post on Aug. 8.
The late Corbin opened Chipley Gun & Pawn in 1981 and has served as a member of Chipley Redevelopment Agency, Washington County Chamber of Commerce, and as the State Committee Woman for the State of Florida Republican Party. She also was heavily involved with Habitat for Humanity.
A funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Chipley. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church before the funeral service. The burial will follow at Noma Cemetery.
