A Winter Park preserve, closed to the public for years after someone killed one of the resident peacocks with a crossbow, is opening in April for a scenic race, the Bungalower reports.

Even though the Genius Preserve, maintained by the Elizabeth Morse Genius Foundation, remains closed throughout the year, it opens once a year for the annual Run for the Trees 5-kilometer race event.

The race will be held on Sat., April 27, from 7:30-10:30 a.m.

The 5K will take racers on a picturesque route along the canopied dirt roads of the preserve.

If you’re a nature lover and want to try your hand at cultivating, this event is for you because everyone who finishes the race will be gifted a young tree.

Tickets run $33-40 and all funds will go toward the Winter Park Tree Replacement Fund.
