BONIFAY - Holmes County Board of County Commissioners held a special session on February 5 in order to determine where $39,000 in funding would be used.

The funds come from a position in District Two that Commissioner Brandon Newsom offered to give up in order to fund the position of a full time EMT at the New Hope Fire Station. $18,000 of that will be put toward the position this year, with the remaining $21,000 being split between other ventures. $10,000 will go toward a lobbying firm to pay for lobbying services during legislative session. $5,000 will be put toward beaver removal and the remaining $7,000 will be put back in District two coffers to be used for temporary workers.

The county will be obligated next fiscal year for $55,000 to fund the EMT position for 10 hours a day, seven days a week. $39,000 will come from the District two position and the additional $16,000 will come from the general fund. The hope is that the ambulance will make enough in the future to fund itself and then in turn return the $39,000 back to District two.

Holmes County Board of County Commissioners will meet again in regular session at 9 a.m. on February 12.
