SUNNY HILLS - A sculpture of a soaring bald eagle and American flag now stands erect amidst piles of debris left behind from Hurricane Michael.

The oak stump was recently completed and carved into this awe-inspiring piece of art by Sunny Hills sculptor and Vernon native Chad Gainey.

In 2016, Gainey, who began carving as a hobby in 2011, was featured as a master carver on Food Network program series "Halloween Wars." His work can be found across America, Canada and Europe, his website chadgaineysculpture.com states. Gainey said he plans to unveil more sculptures in December and January that will also be carved out of trees impacted by Hurricane Michael.

The bald eagle and American flag sculpture and several other works can be found at chadgaineysculpture.com or on Facebook.
