CHIPLEY - The School Board voted to approve board member annual salaries and appoint members to new roles at Tuesday's organizational meeting held at the school district headquarters, 652 Third Street.
In an unanimous vote, the salaries were approved at $27,499 annually, which is the recommended rate by the Florida School Board Association and $197 more than the current rate.
The School Board also renewed an annual contract with Fuqua & Milton, P.A. Attorneys at Law. Attorney Matthew Fuqua will provide legal services on a retainer of $750, which is a rate of $150 per hour for five hours per month. The contract runs Nov. 20, 2018 to Nov. 19, 2020.
Former School Board Chairwoman Susan Roberts was selected as School Board Legislative Committee Representative for the 2018-2019 year during a special board meeting held July 23 this year. At Tuesday's meeting, the Board selected newest member Will "Tonka" Taylor to be the alternate representative.
And for the Small School District Council Consortium (SSDCC) Board of Directors, which promotes issues of concern that impact small school district to the Florida Legislature, the Board selected Roberts to be the liaison.
A workshop was scheduled for 4 p.m. on Dec. 3 to discuss facilities, particularly those impacted by the hurricane.
Also at the meeting, the School Board selected Dr. Lou Ann Cleveland to be the chairman and Milton Brown as vice chairman.
School Board meetings will be held the second Monday of the month at 5 p.m. at the district headquarters.
