CHIPLEY - Right in the time of need for so many, local law enforcement agencies will provide food assistance Saturday.

Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Chipley Police Department will host a Farm Share event tomorrow at 9 a.m. in the WSCO parking lot, 711 Third Street. Food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so organizers requests everyone to arrive early.

"Following Hurricane Michael, it has been Sheriff Crews' constant concern that all residents have what they need," a WCSO Facebook post read Wednesday. "With the Thanksgiving holiday quickly approaching WCSO and CPD are hoping to take the burden off of hundreds of families by assisting them with food."

Established in 1991, nonprofit food bank Farm Share partners with Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and inmates at Florida Department of Corrections, and other volunteers, to re-sort and package produce from farms that would otherwise have been thrown away due to bruising or size. The organization ships the produce to other agencies for local distribution at no cost.

At a Farm Share event last March, the Sheriff's Office distributed more than 13,000 pounds of food locally.
