CHIPLEY — Five men have been arrested on trespassing charges after attaching tarps to the roof of a home without permission.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, five Hispanic males were arrested on the felony charges of criminal mischief and trespassing on Monday after a homeowner found them on her roof after returning home.
The home did not have previous roof damage from Hurricane Michael, the release stated. However, the suspects were tarping the roof without authorization.
"We are urging all residents to remain vigilant," said Sheriff Kevin Crews. "If an individual is found on your property, call law enforcement immediately."
"There will be a zero tolerance in Washington County of our residents being taken advantage of," the release stated. "Individuals who are working in the capacity of a contractor and are unlicensed will face criminal felony charges."
WCSO officials said they want the public to be informed of the risks that are associated with unlicensed contractors. If you are approached by anyone that you are uncomfortable with or who cannot provide licensure information, contact WCSO at 850-638-6111.
