PACE — Pea Ridge Elementary student Jadylyn Minturn is working to aid local veterans in need by raising awareness of the Gulf Breeze food pantry Food for Vets. So far she has helped collect more than 66 pounds of food for the food pantry.
Jadylyn has been going to each grade at her school to give presentations on food pantries and why they are important to the community. Her inspiration was a brochure for the pantry, according to her grandmother, Chris Hinson of Navarre.
"My husband and I are both Air Force vets," Hinson said. "We were donating and we brought a brochure to our daughter. Jadylyn saw it and was curious."
Jadylyn wanted to help. She started collecting food but decided that wasn't enough. So she developed a presentation and began speaking in classrooms at her school and at Martial Arts America, the karate studio she attends in Pace.
"I thought maybe if I can make this big, bigger things can happen," Jadylyn said. "One small step makes the biggest difference. Think small, not big."
The Food for Vets food pantry is at 1839 Cowen Road in Gulf Breeze. Visit www.foodforvets.org for more information.
