MADISON, Miss. – The Hillcrest High School baseball team won both its games on Friday at the Mid-Mississippi Classic, defeating Davidson, out of Mobile, 9-1, and Madison Central, out of Mississippi, 7-5. The Patriots (7-1) continue play Saturday with two more games, Warren Central and Brandon, both high school baseball teams from Mississippi.

In the win against Davidson, the Patriots had seven players with multiple hits each. Christian Jones had two hits and three RBIs. Garrett McMillan had two hits with two RBIs. Colby Smelley’s three hits included a single and a double and one RBI. Griffin Eldridge, Walt Bailey, Patrick Hollyhand and Kash Ryan each had two hits. Lee Nustle (1-0) pitched five of the six-innings, run-ruled game. He struck out five and allowed no runs off five hits.

McMillan (3-0) pitched six innings for the win against Madison Central. He allowed five runs on eight hits, two earned, and struck out six. Smelley got the save, throwing in the seventh inning and striking out three. Kyle Chastine had three hits with three RBIs. Eldridge, Smelley and McMillan each had two hits.

JACKSON, Miss. – In its first of two games played on Friday at the Mid-Mississippi Classic, the Jaguars had five hits with Stevan Fairburn hitting two singles and Austin Elliott, Markie Buettner and Caleb Toshcoff each with one single. Winning pitcher Lane Hamby went seven innings, striking out five and allowing one run.

The game was tied at 1-1 going into the top of the seventh inning. Pinch runner Joshua Borak scored the go-ahead run and Caleb Toshcoff scored the security run on an RBI single.

Northwest Rankin (Miss.) 0

JACKSON, Miss. - The win came on Thursday at the Mid-Mississippi Classic. Winning pitcher Stevan Fairburn threw a shutout , striking out 12 batters. He allowed two hits and no walks in seven innings.

Batting highlights included Fairburn hitting a triple, William Hamiter and Crawford Lehman each having two RBI’s on doubles, Markie Buettner hitting an RBI single and Timarques Samuel hitting a single.

TROY - At the Trojan Classic, Hailey Olsen (2-0) and Lauren Carroll combined to pitch a shutout for American Christian Academy. Olsen did not give up any runs on three hits over three innings. She struck out three and did not walk a batter. Carroll came in and finished the fourth inning for the save. At the plate, Carroll had two singles, Katherine Grill had a triple and single, and Olsen had a double.

TROY - American Christian Academy finished first in pool play at the Trojan Classic with the win against Stanhope Elmore, its second game and second win of the day for ACA. Halle Payne (4-0) threw a four-inning shutout for the win, striking out nine batters, walking one and giving up two hits. Lauren Carroll doubled and singled, driving in two runs. Maile White singled and drove in one run. Hailey Olsen, Hannah Reid, Hanna Sartain, and Katherine Grill each had a single. ACA (6-0) will begin single elimination play on Saturday.

BIRMINGHAM – It was the first of two games Northridge played Friday in pool play at Spain Park’s Jag Classic. For Northridge, Lauren Seawell hit a double. Mary Katherine Winfield and Lindy Cheshire both singled.

BIRMINGHAM – The game marked the second of the day Friday in pool play for Northridge at Spain Park’s Jag Classic. Northridge did not have any hits. Northridge (1-7) and the tournament teams begin bracket play Saturday with Northridge playing its first game at 8 a.m.
