CHIPLEY – A Washington County Woman is behind bars after admitting to authorities that she shot her husband during an argument.

On November 30, a 911 call came into the Washington County Telecommunications Center from a woman who identified herself as Peggy McAteer, 46. McAteer stated she had shot her husband and was in need of medical services.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at 3496 Union Hill Road to find Randy McAteer, 60, lying just inside the front door.

In a statement to law enforcement, McAteer stated that she had entered the closet in the master bedroom and retrieved a .44 caliber handgun during the course of a day long argument. McAteer went on to admit firing two shots with one hitting her husband in the upper leg.

Statements provided led investigators to believe the argument began over accusations of an ongoing affair.

Randy McAteer was immediately transported to an area hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been updated at this time.

Peggy McAteer was arrested and charged of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. McAteer is currently being held on a $100,000.00 bond.
