DEFUNIAK SPRINGS – A Defuniak Springs couple has been charged with grand theft stemming from an investigation launched in July 2017.

A call referencing a stolen boat came into the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office July 31 from a resident on Baker Manning Loop in Ponce de Leon.

When deputies arrived on scene the victim stated his 1987 Bass Tracker had been stolen. He then provided the registration and vehicle identification number to prove ownership.

The case was assigned to investigators who interviewed witnesses and determined that Jamie Hopkins and Amanda Vanderecken were responsible for theft of the boat.

Arrest warrants were obtained on October 24. Vanderecken has been arrested. Hopkins is still at-large.
