BONIFAY – There will soon be a new face at Bonifay City Hall, following city council's Monday vote to hire Beverly Gilley as city clerk effective April 1. Gilley will fill the role which will become vacant when current clerk Jeri Gibson retires at the end of March after 12 years of service.

Council members also set dates for Bonifay's upcoming municipal election, with Councilman James E. Sims submitting his resignation from his current post, effective March 1, to throw his hat in the ring for the City of Bonifay mayoral seat.

Qualifying will be held March 6 through March 10 at Bonifay City Hall from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Election Day is March 27, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In other business, the city approved a motion to abandon 20 feet of an alleyway by Mathusek Street to Sharon Palmer. The alleyway has been maintained by Palmer for as long as she has owned the adjacent property, where her home is located. Palmer will be required to pay attorney fees, survey costs and deed paperwork before the property is deeded to her.

Bonifay City Council will meet again in regular session at 6 p.m. on March 13.
