VERNON — The top dog hailing from Seaside Retrievers, a Vernon-based retriever kennel and breeding operation, is none other than Gorgeous George “Clooney.”

Clooney is a black Labrador retriever that’s made quite a name for himself and his handlers Frank and Rita Jones in the past year.

Clooney was bred from a pure line of highly exalted competition retrievers. His winning genetics made him a shoo-in for derby competitions and, more recently, Field Trial competitions.

Rita Jones said Clooney was whelped and raised in their home and trained at Seaside Retrievers until he went to Michigan on a summer trip with Jason Baker at 12 months of age. The Joneses did Clooney’s early training at their property, where they observed Clooney was a fast learner, good in the water and loved to work.

Clooney won his first derby at 16 months of age and finished 2014 with 13 points. Clooney finished out 2015 with 75 derby points.

The Joneses said many friends supported Clooney’s training. Most influential was Jason Baker, who is credited as a master at recognizing and developing young dog talent. Without Baker’s expert guidance and tutelage, none of Clooney’s winnings would have been possible.

Seaside Retrievers became an American Kennel Club kennel in 2007. Since the beginning of its dog breeding program, Seaside Retrievers has produced Master Hunters, National Derby List Dogs, Qualified All Age Dogs, Amateur Field Champions, Field Champions, two Double Header Winners, a National Field Champion and the 2015 High Point Derby Dog.

Jones said Clooney’s offspring are turning out as big, bold and beautiful as their father. The Joneses hope this will also to be a victorious competition year for Clooney and his friends from Seaside Retrievers.
