HOLMES COUNTY — A Holmes County woman was arrested for shooting her husband in the arm during an argument.

Holmes County Sheriff’s Office responded to Doctors Memorial Hospital on March 4, where a man appeared in the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his arm and hand. The patient reported it was a self-inflicted wound, but the story was not adding up for authorities after a search of the victim’s residence.

Investigators went to the victim’s home on County Road 179 with a search warrant, where they located several firearms and collected evidence from the earlier shooting incident. Authorities also spoke with neighbors and questioned the victim again about what had happened. The victim confirmed he and his wife had been arguing when she retrieved a gun and shot the victim in the arm area.

Officers arrested the victim’s wife, Duchess Kirkland. Kirkland was charged as a felon in possession of a firearm and with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She is currently in Bay County Jail awaiting extradition back to Holmes County.
