ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The Chipola College Brain Bowl team finished third in the Community College National Championship held in Atlanta, Georgia, Saturday, Feb. 27.
The top 24 community colleges in the country, who all qualified through sectional tournaments, competed for the championship. Jefferson Community and Technical College from Kentucky won the title. State College of Florida-Manatee was second. Chipola was third, and Faulkner State from Alabama finished fourth.
The top four community college teams advance to the four-year college Intercollegiate Championship Tournament in Chicago Illinois Thursday, April 7 and Friday, April 8, where they will compete against the top four-year schools in the nation.
The Chipola team advanced through the preliminary bracket by finishing 4-1, and made a good run in the championship bracket to finish with an overall record of 9-2. Chipola fell just short of making it to the championship game, losing a tie-breaker match with State College of Florida-Manatee 265-200. Jefferson then defeated defending champion State College–Manatee 225-185 to win the title.
Chipola A team members are: Chance Pender, Hunter Davis, Alex Tharp and Turner McCroan. Chipola B team finished 14th in the 24 team field. B team members are: Katie Everett, Haileigh Pippin, Madelynn Lytle and Donavan Ebersole.
Katie Everett was named a tournament all-star by finishing seventh overall in individual scoring out of 102 individual competitors.
