Bethlehem Culinary students travelled to Orlando, Florida February 4 to compete at the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association Educational Foundation (FRLAEF) ProStart Competition. ProStart is a nationwide, two-year program for high school students, which provides educational opportunities from culinary techniques to management skills. This year’s competition welcomed 49 schools, two of which were there to represent Holmes County: Bethlehem High School and Holmes County High School. At the competition, Bethlehem placed 33rd in the Gourmet Meal competition, 16th in Edible Centerpiece, 10th in Waiter Relay, and ninth in Management. In addition to these awards, Bethlehem’s Culinary Adviser, Sheila Richards was named FRLAF ProStart Teacher of Year and awarded the Pineapple Award. “I am so proud of my kids, and I love what I do,” Richards commented, “being honored was an incredible surprise.”
