BONIFAY — Bonifay City Council decided against renewing a future contract with the State of Florida to maintain Bonifay’s three traffic signals in a brief meeting Monday night.

The council unanimously voted to issue a letter to the state by the June 30 deadline declining to renew service after 2016 at the cost of $9,000 per year.

In other action, the council moved to allow the 7 and 8-year-old Dixie Youth Baseball All Stars to solicit donations to help send the team to play in the state tournament from those stopped in traffic at the intersection of U.S. 90 and S.R. 79 in conjunction with an upcoming barbecue fundraiser if the league obtains proper permits.

The next city council meeting will be Monday, July 13 at 6 p.m.
