UPDATE: Cottondale Murder Suspect Possibly Shot in Holmes County

A Holmes County correctional officer died while being life-flighted to a hospital in Jackson County after being critically shot during a shoot out just outside Gritney between officers and pursued murder suspect Wade Williams.

Williams was shot dead during the gunfight and another HC corrections officer suffered from a minor injury when a bullet grazed him.

UPDATE as of 10:35 a.m.:

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the pursuit of Williams is over and he is in custody.

Two officers have been shot during pursuit; one with minor injuries and the other has been life-flighted.

Lock-down has been lifted from Holmes County Schools.

UPDATE as of 9:30 a.m.:

Sheriff’s Office confirms that they are in active pursuit of Wade Williams. The HCSO advisory and lock-down are still in effect. 

UPDATE as of 9:15 a.m.:

Holmes County Sheriff's Office is advising as of 8:15 a.m. on Feb. 2 all residents in the Gritney area to lock your doors and remain inside your residence.

Holmes County Sheriff’s Office along with other agencies are assisting Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in the search for Wade Allen Williams who is a person of interest in a double homicide case that happened Wednesday in Cottondale.  If you have seen or see Williams please contact Jackson County Sheriff’s Office 850-482-9648, or Holmes County Sheriff’s Office at 547-3681.

Holmes County schools are on lock-down and citizens are advised to lock their doors in the area of northern Holmes County.
