Four of 11 area wrestlers still alive at state
LAKELAND — Arnold’s Jayme Atkins and Zane Turnipseed and Mosley’s Ryan Newsome and Dillon Humphrey are the only area wrestlers still alive at respective state tournaments. All four are two wins away from earning a medal as a top 6 placer.
Atkins (125-pound weight class) and Turnipseed (145) start their quest in the Class 1A tournament at 9 a.m. CST on Saturday. Atkins faces Michael Pearce of Southwest Ranches Bishop McCarthy, while Turnipseed Kevin Nichols of Tampa Jesuit. Humphrey (103) will compete in the 2A tournament against Tony Mendez of Jacksonville Forrest, while Newsome (135) opens against Ian Jones of Pace.
Also in 1A, Bozeman’s Charles Vincent (135) and Rutherford’s Chris Searles (130) were eliminated after two matches. Bozeman’s Brandon Reyes (103) was 1-2 after winning his second match by forfeit. Arnold’s Joel Ensminger (112) is out with a medical default after dislocating his shoulder.
In 2A, Kyle Angove (119) and Jimmy Kahle (140) went 0-2.
