Chipola's Rich Is FCCAA Softball Player Of The Week

MARIANNA - Chipola sophomore Samantha Rich of Wewahitchka, FL, is this week’s FCCAA Softball Player of the Week.  Rich—a freshman outfielder—batted .786 (11-for-14) with two home runs and five RBI’s in five games at the Aiken Tech Tournament, Feb. 18-19.

She hit safely in all five games and collected at least two hits in each outing. On day one, she was 6-for-8, which included a home run and three RBI’s against Florence-Darlington Tech. On day two, she was 5-for-6 and scored three runs in wins over Middle Georgia and Walters State.

The Lady Indian Softball Team won the Aiken (SC) Tech Classic Fastpitch Tournament, Feb. 18-19.  Chipola won the first three games by the mercy rule, ahead by 8 runs after 5 innings.  On the Championship day, Chipola beat Middle Georgia 8-0, then defeated Walters State in the Championship Game.  Walters State is a national contender and that made the championship game a shoot out between former National Champions.

The Lady Indians (15-6) are the fourth-ranked team in the FCCAA State poll. Chipola is on the road this week, but the team returns home March 2, for games with Lake Michigan at 2 and 4 p.m.
