Wakulla beats FAMU in finale
The Wakulla High football team came into Friday's game at FAMU High knowing it wouldn't be playing in the postseason next week, but the War Eagles still had plenty of motivation.
Looking to send its seniors out as winners — and carry some positive momentum into next season — Wakulla rolled into Bragg Memorial Stadium and closed out the season with a 35-20 win over FAMU High.
"It's hard playing that last game knowing you're not going to the playoffs, but credit to the seniors," Wakulla coach Scott Klees said. "What an unbelievable job they did sticking together, and they held this team together. I'm proud of them."
A pair of War Eagles seniors, quarterback Casey Eddinger and running back E.J. Forbes, led a bruising Wakulla rushing attack that piled up 312 yards. Forbes led the War Eagles with 87 yards on just 11 carries — all of them in the second half, while Eddinger added another 70 yards on the ground.
Eddinger also passed for 82 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown pass to Mikel Cromartie on the War Eagles' first possession of the game.
After extending its lead to 14-0, Wakulla seemed poised to run away with the contest. But a resilient Baby Rattlers squad — and a superhuman effort from running back Jordan Stanley — kept the game tight.
Stanley terrorized the War Eagles defense, rushing for 196 yards on 24 carries — good for an astounding 8.2 yards per rush. The senior scored his first of two touchdowns on the night late in the first half to cut the Baby Rattlers's deficit to eight at halftime.
FAMU High received the kick to begin the third quarter, and promptly marched down the field for a 59-yard drive that was capped by a 7-yard TD pass from Mike Melvin to Leonard Barrington.
"I saw a lot of sparks," FAMU High coach Ira Reynolds said. "This is a quality ball club we played tonight … in my opinion, there's not a team in Class 1B that can match up with Wakulla, North Florida Christian or Florida High, so it does prepare us (for the state playoffs."
Reynolds admitted that he had an eye on next week's playoff game at Hawthorne, and pulled a few defensive starters in the second half to minimize any chance of injuries.
Wakulla, however, had nothing but this week to play for, and the War Eagles' offense capped its season in style, putting up 21 points in a wild fourth quarter.
Willie Thomas, Lorenzo Randolph, and Antonio Kilpatrick all scored rushing touchdowns in the final period.
"It's the way it's supposed to be," Klees said of the season-ending victory. "I hope this will lead to great things for next year."

A note to "parent". Steve Griffin did not let his job go to his head. I can assure you I know him better than you do. Steve is probably one of the best superintendents Holmes Co has had, and I am sure he. He did a superb job. How many superintendents do you know who tried to attend ball games at the different schools? That may not seem like much to you, but he was an active superintendent, attended meetings, did lots of good things for the school system that neither you nor I probably know about. When he was principal at Bonifay Elementary School, he knew most of the children by name. People need to quit throwing stones at Steve, and just realize what a good job he did. He is a wonderful Christian man, who served the school system with integrity and wisdom. He has nothing to be ashamed about.

It always makes me proud to be from Holmes County when I see a tough election come to an end and everyone comes out of their fox holes to shake hands and work until the next battle. Congratulations Holmes County. You're a shining example to others.

Hey congrats, so now it is the voters that are the problem. Without these voters we would have a dictatorship in Holmes County. Seems you have a personal beef with Galloway. He won fair and square. As some have been told in the last four years, it was our decision to vote how we felt. Thank God for that opportunity. I Here there are some countries around the globe that do not have elections. Try moving there and let us all know how it works out for you.

To congrats, I don't guess you care about the $350,000 that our county had to pay the ACLU. I guarantee you I did not vote for Mr. Galloway for any reason that has to do about power.

Congratulations Holmes County for electing a sup. of schools that only ran because he was mad at Griffin and wanted to get back at him. Congrats on having someone now that knows nothing about the school system except what goes on in his classroom. Congrats on having someone with hidden agendas that has nothing to do with the students. You have made it clear again the probelms in Holmes County, the biggest being the voters and those that areelected that care nothing about the position butthe power. Thanks Mr. Griffin for everything. People will regret it soon.

I am confused by some of these comments made about Mr. Griffin. Perhaps I am missing something but from my observation I have always seen Mr. Griffin as a humble and kind man. Arrogant is a word I could never imagine associating with him. I am just wondering how he has earned those ugly comments. Why do you make those comments? I am genuinely curious. Are these comments from people who were passed over for jobs? Are these comments from parents whose children didn't get recognition that they thought they deserved? I'm not trying to be facetious. I really am confused by the negative comments. Can anyone explain?

Congrats Mr. Galloway! I never thought I would vote for someone across the river when they were running against a Bonifay resident. I never thought that Mr. Griffin would be as arrogant as he has been to me. I think Mr. Griffin is a great guy but he let his position go to his head. Even though he has protrayed a- you are not important -attitude to me, I pray that God continues to bless him and his family.

Congrats to Mr. Galloway. You have alot of mess to clean up and a budget in shambles. The humbleness you presented in the campaign was a shock compared to the arrogance we have endured for the last four years. The common man approach was what took you over the top. Please continue to listen to your public, and you will continue to be lovedas a public official. Always remember those of us who supported you, but more importantly those who did not. Pray for our county and our country. Roll Tide.

Mr. Griffin, I am sorry to see you leave. You have done a super job for the schools in Holmes County. I think that it is a shame that unpopular decisions had to be made that were blamed on you. Holmes County schools have lost one of the best superintendents that they have ever had. Thank you Mr. Griffin for doing a super job honestly and with a lot of integrity throughout your four years. Just remember, God is still in control and he has something better for you to do. You have done nothing to be ashamed of. Your leaving is a great loss for Holmes County Schools and you will be dearly missed. I believe that God will not forsake you and your family.

A WARNING to all of our new politicians. Rember that it was the public that put you in office. The people that you are replacing forgot that somewhere along the way, which is why they are no longer in those positions. Be fair, honest and friendly and you will stay in your new positions for a long time. If you forget, you will be reminded in four years. Good Luck and we are all watching.

Thanks, Steve for doing a good job as school superintendent. I know you always had the school and students best interests at heart, and along with the school board, made the decisions you felt was right. You will never please everybody, but you answer to God first, and I am sure you prayed about decisions you had to make. You ran a clean race, kept your integrity, and even though you lost, remember God is still in control, and He will take care of you.

I was glad to see some of the changes within Holmes County. Congrats Mr. Galloway on your victory. I had intended to support Mr. Galloway but went with Mr. Griffin due to some of Mr. Galloway's associations. I for one have never voted for Mr. Neal Mixon when he was seeking office and was terribly disappointed to see Mr. Mixon and Mr. Galloway campaining together. Rumor has it that Mr. Mixon has been promised a job.
