Boxeman off to 2-0 start
Many girls don’t score seven goals in a season. Bozeman’s Amber Johnson hit that mark in two games.
Johnson scored five goals in Bozeman’s (2-0) season opener Saturday, a 6-0 win over Chipley, and came back with two more Monday night in a 5-1 win over Marianna.
Kirstie Cannon scored two on Monday and Becca Hall had the last. Camille Johnson had an assist.
Keeper Jessica McAdams saved five shots Monday and earned Saturday’s shutout with two saves.
Against Chipley, Cannon had the lone goal not by Johnson.
Boys basketball
Covenant 71, Poplar Springs 49
POPLAR SPRINGS - Ben Dobernig and Kristo Kleimeyer each had double-doubles as Covenant improved to 4-1.
Dobernig finished with 21 points, 17 rebounds and five assists. Kleimeyer had 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Point guard Justin Schaefer had eight points to go along with five assists and Ryan Ponds scored six points and had eight rebounds and eight assists. Covenant is 4-1. The Lions’ JV (1-2) lost 30-21.
Cottondale 81, Wewahitchka 41
COTTONDALE - Marcus Humose scored a team-high 15 points to lead Cottondale (1-0) past Wewahitchka.
Tristin White and Nick Jackson each had 11 points, Dominique Webb scored 10 and Jacob Herring and Darien Pollack added eight points apiece for the Hornets, who play at Marianna on Friday.

Ponce de Leon 46, Cottondale 42
PONCE DE LEON- In their first meeting since Cottondale’s heated regional semifinal win over Ponce de Leon last season, the Lady Pirates had all nine players score to avenge the loss.
Hillary Harper and Gypsy Griffin had seven points to lead Ponce de Leon (4-0).
Kiki Paul kept the Lady Hornets in the game with five 3-pointers. Shantae Forward and Deonna Jones each had eight points.
PDL hosts Vernon on Dec. 1 in its District 2-2A opener.
