Devils blank Jackets

VERNON — Holmes County’s Sarah Pippin pitched a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts and one walk as the Blue Devils opened the season with an 11-0 softball win in five innings over Vernon on Monday.

Danielle Payne led Holmes County with a triple, double, single and three RBIs, Pippin was 2-3, Shelby Clark 2-4 with a double, Courtney Reeves 1-2 with two RBIs and Siara Jones 2-4 with two runs scored.

Bay Stops Vernon

MARIANNA — Bay defeated Vernon 9-2 and lost to Marianna 12-2 in preseason classic games on Feb. 4. Against Vernon, winning pitcher Emily Locher struck out five and singled, tripled and knocked in a run. Brantley had two singles and two RBIs, Jelly Mathis two singles and one RBI, LaNae Mortz a double and two RBIs and Ashley Beason a double and RBI.

Against Marianna, Mathis went 2 for 4. beason had two hits and an RBI and Mortz a single and RBI.

Holmes County Rolls Over Cottondale

BONIFAY — Sarah Pippin had four hits, including a double, and five RBIs to give Holmes County its second win of the season in as many games. Ciara Jones was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Courtney English 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Hannah Prescott 3 for 3 with two doubles for the Blue Devils (2-0). Jenna Sellers was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts and one walk while giving up five hits. Holmes County is at Walton tonight (Feb. 9).
