VERNON — Holmes County’s Sarah Pippin pitched a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts and one walk as the Blue Devils opened the season with an 11-0 softball win in five innings over Vernon Monday afternoon.

Danielle Payne led Holmes County with a triple, double, single and three RBIs, Pippin was 2-3, Shelby Clark  2-4 with a double, Courtney Reeves 1-2 with two RBIs and Siara Jones 2-4 with two runs scored.

Holmes County hosts Cottondale today.

Bay 20, North Bay Haven 0

PANAMA CITY — Bay’s McKenzie Wolffer batted 3 for 3 while C.J. Brantley and LaNae Mortz each had two hits in the Tornadoes’ season opening win over North Bay Haven.

Bay senior Emily Locher was  the winning pitcher.

MARIANNA — Bay defeated Vernon 9-2 and lost to Marianna 12-2 in preseason classic games on Saturday. Against Vernon, winning pitcher Emily Locher struck out five and singled, tripled and knocked in a run. Brantley had two singles and two RBIs, Jelly Mathis two singles and one RBI, LaNae Mortz a double and two RBIs and Ashley Beason a double and RBI.

Against Marianna, freshman pitcher Mathis held Marianna 2-2 through five innings and went 2 for 4. Beason had two hits and an RBI and Mortz a single and RBI.
