Williams paces Graceville girls to fourth-place state finish

WINTER PARK — Mychea Williams swept the sprints and ran the leadoff leg on Graceville’s winning 4x100 meter relay as the Tigers’ girls placed fourth the Class 1A state track and field meet held Friday.

Jessica McClendon got Graceville rolling when she won the shot put with a heave of 39 feet, 6 inches. Williams took over from there. She won the 100 meters in 12.59 seconds, the 200 in 25.46 and joined Brittany Williams, Cierra Mack and Jalisa McSwain as the relay won in 49.6 seconds.

Williams scored the remainder of Graceville’s 45 team points by placing fourth in the high jump at 5-2. The Tigers converted four first places into 40 of their 45 points. Melbourne Holy Trinity was first with 77 points.

Other leading medalists from the area were Megan Walker of Port St. Joe, second in the pole vault at 12-0 and Port St. Joe’s Fanequa Larry, third in the triple jump at 36-0.

In the boys division. Brandon Peak of Port St. Joe was third in the pole vault at 14-0, and Charles Ford of Graceville was third in the shot put at 48-6½.
