Prep roundup (11/17): Bay girls down Niceville in opener

Also, Rutherford boys soccer wins; Bozeman, Mosley girls also victorious

PANAMA CITY — Tanesha Middleton and Shanterria Webb scored 17 points apiece for Bay in a 56-51 win over Niceville in girls basketball on Tuesday.

Kristian Robertson scored 11, Aubrey Horsley eight and Akeelah Jackson scored eight and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Bay (1-0) hosts Bozeman on Thursday.

Mosley 64, Marianna 61

MARIANNA — Octavia Langston hit 5 of 6 attempts from the free-throw line in overtime to help Mosley to the win.

Langston made 11 of 14 free throws and had a game-high 29 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Deanna Canfield had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Kiera West added nine points and Mia Martello nine rebounds for Mosley (1-0).

The game was tied 55-55 at the end of regulation, as Marianna missed two free throws with no time remaining.

Mosley (1-0) hosts Rutherford on Thursday.

Boys basketball

Covenant 58, Providence 49

DOTHAN, Ala — Covenant evened its record at 2-2 as Ben Dobernig scored 27 points and snared 23 rebounds. Grant Sparks had 10 points, Kristo Kleimeyer had eight points and 10 rebounds and Parker Sheffield seven points and five assists.

Covenant lost its JV opener 40-31 despite Stephen Carr’s 11 points.

The Lions play at Tallavana Christian School on Monday.

Boys soccer

Rutherford 3, Godby 0

SPRINGFIELD — Ross Ruder, Malcolm Harris and Matt Powers scored a goal each for Rutherford, while Nour AlNahass and Michael Heimbuch had assists. Goalkeepers Shawn Musser had two saves and Brad Warnick had one save for the Rams (2-2, 1-0 District 2-4A), who host Fort Walton Beach on Thursday.

Mosley 5, Leon 5

BAYOU GEORGE — Mosley squandered a 4-1 lead and settled for a tie at Harders Park. Jhonaton Urbina, Matt Perles, Eric Taylor, Andrew Beasley, and Brad Gatta scored goals while Taylor and Stephen Ray had assists. Goalkeepers Josh Duncan had three saves in the first half, while Warren Fleer had five for Mosley (1-0-1).

Mosley’s JV lost 4-1. Justin Reed scored the Dolphins’ lone goal. Goalkeeper Josh Hoey had a save and Nathan Gutcher had four saves for the Mosley JV (4-1).

Mosley plays at Crestview on Thursday.

Girls soccer

Bozeman 5, Franklin Co. 0

EASTPOINT — Becca Hall had three goals and one assist as the Bucks opened their season with a win. Sarah Brannen had two goals and one assist, Camille Johnson had an assist and keeper Jessica McAdams made four saves.

Bozeman plays at Port St. Joe on Thursday.

Mosley 1, Niceville 0

NICEVILLE — Emily Vogler scored six minutes into the second half on a Chelsey Williams assist. Leah Vickers cleared a shot in the final minute to seal the win. Goalkeeper Emily Grammer made nine saves for Mosley (3-1, 2-0 District 2-5A), which hosts Crestview on Thursday.

Mosley’s JV won 2-0 behind two goals by Brie Campbell. The Mosley JV is 4-0-1.

Middle schools

Girls basketball — Surfside defeated Merritt Brown 41-12. Leading scorers for Surfside (2-0) were Kelli Crowley with12 points, McKenzie Perot with 10, Casey Perot 8 and Madison Rudolph 3. For Merritt Brown (0-2), Lilly Williams and Sierra Burris each had 3. Surfside is at Mowat Thursday.
