Class 4A boys: Fort Myers edges Oak Ridge for crown
Fort Myers 59, Orlando Oak Ridge 57: LAKELAND (AP) — Terran McClendon scored 20 points and Orlando Oak Ridge missed a 10-foot jumper at the buzzer as Fort Myers escaped with a 59-57 victory in the Class 4A state boys basketball final Saturday.
Oak Ridge (23-9) trailed by 14 entering the fourth, but thanks to poor foul shooting by Fort Myers, it cut the deficit to 58-57 after center Cady Lalanne made the second of two free throws with 15.7 seconds left. Fort Myers (28-5) immediately turned it over, but Oak Ridge gave it right back on a bad pass.
James Joseph converted one of two foul shots to put the Green Wave back up by two with 3.9 seconds remaining.
The title is the first for Fort Myers, which was 10-16 in the playoffs before going 5-0 this postseason. The Green Wave ended the season with 14 straight victories.
Lalanne, a Georgia signee, led Oak Ridge with 17 points, six rebounds and six blocks.
