Reality Hall at Vernon Community Center

VERNON - Several local organizations were involved in presenting “Reality Hall” at the Vernon Community Center on Oct. 17. The major emphasis of “Reality Hall” is to bring awareness, educate and inform the Vernon youth community about making the right decisions in one’s life.

This year, “Reality Hall” allowed many organizations to come together, for the youth of Vernon, and illustrate the consequences when wrong decisions are made. Different scenarios were acted out in each room and included tobacco, teen pregnancy, alcohol, molestation, date rape, self mutilation, meth, motivational speaking, Hell and hope. The VHS Key Club sponsored the Meth Room along with CASE Coalition of Holmes County.

The Key Club showed support of their community by donating and serving refreshments and snacks at the event. Key Club members also served as active participants in many rooms with other organizations. It was estimated that over 400 visitors attended.

SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) sponsored by the Washington County Health Department funded materials for “Reality Hall.”

Key Club President Jo’ell Fondo said, “We look forward to doing this annually, there will be more people next year and the Vernon High School Key Club will be there to spread the word.”
