Holguin 25th, Menna 33rd in state XC meet

DADE CITY — Bay County runners Gabe Holguin of Bay and Frankie Menna of Mosley couldn’t deliver personal bests, but produced solid finishes nonetheless at their respective state cross country meets on Saturday.

Holguin, competing in the Class 2A meet, placed 25th out of 182 runners in 16 minutes, 31.01 seconds. The 2A meet was won by Colin Barker of champion Bishop Kenny in 15:22.86. Bishop Kenny edged Estero by three points to win the team title.

Menna, competing in the 3A meet, placed 33rd in a field of 186 in 16:38.49. The 3A individual crown went to Matt Mizereck of Tallahassee Leon in 15:21.64. Leon won the team title with 59 points to 103 for runner-up Belen Jesuit.

Holguin is the first runner to represent Bay at the state meet since 1997. Menna is the first Mosley runner ever to compete at that level.
