PONCE de LEON — Not even the rain could dampen spirits as the Ponce de Leon Lady Pirates won the victory against the Port St. Joe Lady Tiger Sharks in the Region 2-1A tournament held Tuesday, Feb. 12 with a score of 62-20.

There was never a silent nor dull moment as the Lady Pirates started and finished aggressively against the Lady Tiger Sharks, with the first period ending in a score of 23-3.

The Lady Tiger Sharks took the defensive more towards the middle of the second period, continually taking back the ball but they found it difficult to make the needed shots to catch up with the Lady Pirates lead, ending the second period with a score of 37-10.

Breaking through the Lady Tiger Sharks’ defenses the Lady Pirates picked up the pace and afforded the Lady Tiger Sharks very little maneuvering room as the third period ended with a score of 54-15.

The Lady Pirates kept firing all cannons as they fought their way to victory with a final score of 62-20.

“I thought we played very well tonight,” said Head Coach Tim Alford. “I am very happy with our efforts. Hopefully we can sustain this momentum and the girls continue to have a lot of fun while doing it.”

The Lady Pirates will be facing the South Walton Lady Seahawks at 7 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 16 in South Walton to play for the chance to go to State.
