BONIFAY — The Holmes County Blue Devils defeated the Paxton Bobcats at the Regional Semifinals on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 19.
The Holmes County Blue Devils came off with a slow start, struggling in the first period against the relentless attacks of the Paxton Bobcats, ending the first period with the Bobcats in the lead with a score of 20-18.
This would be the last lead afforded to the Bobcats as the Blue Devils began to pick up their stride in the second quarter.
For most of the second period it was a tug of war match with each side gaining equal ground until the very end of the second period when the Blue Devils really turned up the heat and ended the second period in the lead with a score of 32-28.
Steadily the Blue Devils found themselves more and more into a grove, picking up the pace against the Bobcats, especially towards the end of the third period and barely able to contain the momentum as the period ended with a score of 51-45.
They kept adding the heat, increasing the ferocity, using more complex plays and more coordinated efforts then before and sent the Bobcats packing as the game wrapped up with a score of 72-51.
“It was a big win,” said Blue Devils’ Head Coach Poe White. “It wasn’t pretty but we’ll take it. We struggled the first part of the game but we managed to pull out a win in the second half.”
The Blue Devils will be facing the Malone Tigers at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Holmes County High School gym in the Regional Semifinals.
