CHIPLEY — Chipley’s Heather Hingson has accepted an invitation to lead the East girls basketball team in the ninth annual Halifax All-Star Classic.
The game is at 11 a.m. on April 6 and will be contested at the Billy Harrison Field House on the campus of Gulf Coast State College. The boys game follows at 1 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students ages 5-up and children under 5 are free.
Teams from the East are chosen from a pool of senior players in the eight-county coverage area of The Panama City News Herald. They face the West, which is comprised of players in the Northwest Florida Daily News’ three-county umbrella.
Hingson led Chipley to a state runner-up finish in Class 1A this season. The Tigers won the District 2-1A championship and finished 23-5 in Hingson’s second season at the helm.
She is the third coach from Chipley to participate in the Halifax Classic, which started in 2005. Rickey McCullough (2005) and Tracey Dudley (2009) also represented Chipley in the games. Both coaches didn’t fare well, with McCullough’s team losing the inaugural game 96-91 and Dudley’s squad falling 112-73.
Chipley’s team was upperclassmen heavy in 2012-13 with seven seniors. There’s a high probability that Hingson will be coaching one or more of her Tigers in their final prep games April 6.
