CHIPLEY — The Chipley Lady Tigers took the lead just three minutes into the 1A Regional Semifinal game and never looked back, pelting the Malone Lady Tigers 57-47 Tuesday night at Chipley High School.
By the end of the first quarter, Chipley was ahead 19-11 and that margin increased to a 13 point lead in the second period, but the Malone girls had whittled that gap down to 9 by halftime.
In the third quarter, Chipley’s Aallyah Coleman and Jasmine Belser came out strong, stretching the Lady Tigers’ edge to 37-26, but the Malone squad came back and closed the gap to five points in the final period.
A layup by Belser followed by a three-pointer by Sorey put Chipley up 50-39 with just over 5 minutes left in the game, and Malone was unable to get closer than six the rest of the evening.
Belser led four Chipley players in double digit scoring with 18 points, while Coleman added 15, and Rakeia Sorey and Amanda Paschal each scored 11 points.
For Malone, Curteeona Brelove tallied with 16 points to lead, with Angelica Livingston adding 11, and Briana Dallas netting 10.
With the win, Chipley advanced to Saturday night’s regional final matchup with Holmes County.
