Wewa's Jones picked up by Pirates

Former Wewahitchka standout Brandon Jones was claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, just one week after begin designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves.

With Atlanta, Jones appeared in 51 games between 2007 and 2009, compiling a .257 batting average with one home run and 22 RBI. He spent most of the 2009 season with Triple-A Gwinnett, where he batted .281 with seven home runs and 57 RBIs in 107 games.

Several internet sources report that the Pirates may try to trade Jones.
