GRACEVILLE – Weather ended Senior Night early in Graceville as the homestanding Tigers finished their season 8-2 (3-1 1B District 1) with a 28-7 win over Chipley (0-10). Graceville now gets ready for the playoffs next Friday in Jacksonville against Eagle’s View in the first round.

Chipley came out with a two-tight end set Graceville Coach Todd Wertenburger said gave his team some trouble for the first few series.

“We knew Chipley would come to play,” said Werteburger.

Chipley Quarterback Scott Redfield used to his advantage after Chipley recovered a Graceville fumble at the home 26. A 28-yard completion to JoJo Taylor set up a 1-yard plunge by Redfield for the score. Cody Sikora’s kick made it 7-0 Chipley with 4:55 left in the first quarter.

Graceville quarterback Justin Miles set up his team’s first score with a 55-yard run to the Chipley 1, where Antrell Wright scored on the next play, adding to 2-point conversion to give Graceville an 8-7 lead. Chipley was driving in Graceville territory but a Graceville interception came back for a 95-yard touchdown, with Wright’s two-pointer making the score 16-7 in the second quarter.

Miles’ 43-yard completion to Florida Litim set Graceville up at the Chipley 16, and five plays later Wright went in from 3 yards out to make it 22-7. Miles lofted a 19-yard touchdown pass to Darrell Olds with 2:00 left to end the scoring.

Wertenburger said that from the film of Eagle’s View (6-4) they will be a high scoring team. They have scored over 50 points three times this season and have averaged 54 points a game in their last two games, both wins.

“Their offense looks the same as last year and their defense looks like the same, so it should be a high-scoring affair,” Wertenburger said. Last season Graceville came out on top 58-42 in the first round of the 1B playoffs. Graceville was eliminated in the next round by district rival FAMU 45-24.
