One arrested for assault with firearm
CHIPLEY – Alcohol and guns are not considered a good mix, as a Chipley man discovered Sunday.
Lt. James Strickland of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said that Kyogee J. Edwards, 56, of Powerline Road was reportedly shooting his shotgun into the air earlier in the day when a neighbor noted that the pellets were falling on his property and asked Edwards to stop shooting. Edwards complied, according to the official report.
The neighbor and two others were driving past Edwards’ property in a pickup truck about 30 minutes later when they said Edwards fired at them twice with a shotgun, wounding one of them in the wrist and hitting the truck with a number of pellets.
Deputies were called and found Edwards “notably intoxicated” according to the report. He told deputies he owned a shotgun and that he was firing the gun earlier, but denied shooting at the truck. Deputies found a double-barreled shotgun matching the description from the victims with two live shells on Edwards’ property. Edwards had two other shells in a front pocket.
Edwards is charged with use of firearm under the influence and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
