Chipola sports update

The Chipola Indians clinched the Panhandle Conference Championship and spot in the state tournament with a 69-62 win over Pensacola on Feb. 14. Marcos Knight led Chipola with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Shamarr Bowden had 11 points.

The Indians are scheduled to host Tallahassee Feb. 19 for Homecoming and the final game of the conference season.

Chipola suffered a 67-65 loss to Northwest Florida Feb. 16 in Niceville. Chipola led 29-27 at half, but gave up 40 points in the second half. Marcos Knight led Chipola with 16 points. Sam Grooms scored 11 points. Geron Johnson and Keith Dewitt scored 10 points apiece.

The Indians scored a 73-59 win at Gulf Coast on Feb. 12.  Bowden led with 20 points on six three-pointers. Elijah Pittman scored 17. Marcos Knight scored 11 points. Keith Dewitt had 10. Chipola is 23-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play.

Chipola’s men (23-4, 9-2) are conference champs and first in the Men’s FCCAA State Poll.  Palm Beach (25-4) is second.  Central Florida is third. Northwest Florida (21-6, 6-5) is fourth.  Tallahassee (21-8, 7-4) is fifth in the poll.    

          Chipola scored a 62-47 win over Tallahassee on Feb. 5.  A pair of Chipola players recorded double-doubles – Marcos Knight (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Keith Dewitt (16 points, 13 rebounds).  Shamarr Bowden scored 12 and Geron Johnson added 11.

The Lady Indians slipped to 4-7 in conference play with a 78-67 loss to Northwest on Feb. 16.  Jasmine Shaw led Chipola with 33 points.

Chipola lost to top-ranked Pensacola 60-44 on Feb. 14.  Brieona Warner led Chipola with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Sara Djassi scored 10.

Chipola suffered their only loss of the season to Gulf Coast in an 82-64 game on Feb. 12.  Jasmine Shaw led Chipola with 19 points.  Jeniece Johnson had 18 points. Sara Djassi added 10.

Chipola scored a 66-48 win over Tallahassee on Feb. 5. Jeniece Johnson led Chipola with 17 points and nine rebounds. Jasmine Shaw added 14 while Carleeda Green and Brieona Warner scored ten points each.

Pensacola (29-0, 12-0) is the Panhandle Conference champion and ranked first in the FCCAA State Women’s Poll. Northwest (22-5, 7-4) is second. Chipola (18-11, 4-7) is third and Gulf Coast is (14-11, 3-8) is sixth. TCC is (13-11, 2-9) is tenth.

The homecoming court will be presented during halftime of the men’s game this evening which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Chipola will host the FCCAA Men’s and Women’s State Tournament, March 2-5, in the Milton H. Johnson Health Center.
