New coach, new approach for Chipley Tigers

CHIPLEY – new things are happening to the Chipley Tigers as they prepare for the 2008 football season. The most notable change is a new head coach.

Chipley native Lee Holley is no stranger to the area, having enjoyed considerable success coaching at nearby Graceville. He hopes to repeat that success with a different group of Tigers.

“We’re looking forward to the season,” Holley said last week as the Tigers held Media Day. “The young men have really invested a lot of time over the summer to make themselves stronger and faster.”

“We’ve got about 71 kids out right now, with 36 on the varsity, so we have a great number of kids wanting to play football at Chipley High School, and we’re really excited about that.

“We kick it off Aug. 29 at Port St. Joe (Kickoff Classic) and play all the way through to Nov. 14 when we wrap it up at Graceville High School.

Holley is excited about his coaching staff.

“We have nine coaches out here and eight out of the nine coaches are former players and graduates of Chipley High School,” he said.

“We have a lot of pride involved in the leadership aspect of this football team and we’re really going to work hard to give this town something they can be proud of.”

Opening regular season game is Sept. 5 at Philip Rountree Stadium against county rival Vernon.

was concerned about our new def coordinator but so far we are playing much better on defense. saw northview got bombed 48-0, so this will be an easy win for us, go tigers

How about them Tigers. Already got our first loss for the season it is going to be a long season until our only win against Bonifay. Oh well I am sure the band will score superiors. They will not let us down.

our jv went 15-1 the past two seasons and our varsity won 13 games so we should have a solid season. hit em a lick tigers.

Past performance is a very good indicator of future performance.

Okay for all of you comparing Holley's credentials over his career, you are comparing Apples to Oranges to Grapes. Graceville only has to prepare for 3 maybe 4 hard games a year. Vanguard had to prepare every week for a hard game. Chipley will only have 1 or 2 on their schedule that are easy wins. So don't compare that which cannot be compared. Give Holley his chance to prove his worth don't prejudge him on past good or bad.

no problem outsider, just really thought zach did a great job at reciever and then to play qb as well as he did was impressive. the coming weeks will tell the story on another exciting season. any way thanks outsider,no problem

Hey Fan I could have worded my statement better. Zach is an outstanding young man and a good QB. I was only disappointed that our new coach had nothing good to say about his new offense. You should always talk your new players up, especially QB's. Dont tell them what they cannot do before the season starts, thats crazy. If I offended anyone about my other posting, I apologize. I certainly meant nothing negative about Zach.

hey outsider, way off base being negative on last years tiger qb. watched high school football for many years and he was an excellent player. Chipley won 6 games last year and I wonder how many they would have won without zach. hopefully this years qb's have improved since the spring. good luck tigers

I'm pretty sure all those "young kids" played college football and by "bunch" you mean two, because I checked and out of 9 coaches only two are under 30.

listen, I have followed chipley football from rountree to john may to kimbrough thru millican and henders thru whitcomb to webb and I have never heard of lee holley or alan ellis.

you should check your facts madmomma, I do not think chipley would hire a guy with that poor of a record.

As far as messing up Holley's name, let me repost my comment. I guess Daddy didn't like it. It obviously shows how forgettable he is as a coach, and his mighty tigers will be that forgettable as well this year.

why do we even play vernon or bonifay they can not play with us. We need to face stiffer competition to help us in the playoffs.

have enjoyed watching the boys play the last two years. I know the former coach and wish this new guy well. Hopefully he can take us deeper into the playoffs. By the way who is the new defense coordinator. Never heard of him.

I thought you had to be registered to leave comment and there was not to be stuff like last year. I hope it is not already starting again like last year. All the slander still will not change whether a team is good or not and Chipley will do just fine this year.
