Moody, Barr fall at state tennis after one match

CASSELBERRY — Bay’s Jason Moody and Tyler Barr were eliminated on Wednesday during the opening day of the Class 2A state tennis meet comprising district champions from around Florida.

Moody, participating in singles, was eliminated by John Kirby of Stanton 6-1, 6-3. Moody then paired with Barr in No. 1 doubles. After a first-round bye, they were ousted by Kirby and his doubles partner Steven Ireland of Stanton 6-1, 6-4.

“The players were a lot better this year,” Bay coach Kay Kovaleski assessed the field. “They didn’t play their best tennis, but they didn’t play their worst,” she said of Moody and Barr. “They just came up against some really good players.”
