Prep roundup (Jan. 3): Bay boys soccer second in tourney
GAINESVILLE - Bay won two games and lost one, finishing second Saturday in the two-day Bobcat Invitational boys high school soccer tournament.
The Tornadoes, 10-6-1, lost Friday to eventual champion Gainesville 3-1. Corey Newsome scored Bay's goal assisted by Hugh Higgins. It was the only goal surrendered by Gainesville in three games. Bay keeper Chris Trotter had eight saves.
The Tornadoes defeated Rockledge 2-0 on Saturday. Goals were by Newsome and Blake Bauer with both assists by Higgins. Trotter made 10 saves for the shutout. Bay downed P.K. Yonge later Saturday 1-0 on Higgins' goal assisted by Newsome. Trotter had six saves.
In addition to Trotter, Joe Nichols, Kevin Husum, Alex Harris and Daniel Weber were standouts on defense, the Tornadoes allowing just three goals for the tournament, all in the opener.
Bay plays Arnold on Wednesday at Tommy Oliver Stadium in a district match.

Port St. Joe wins two
PORT ST. JOE
Port St. Joe's Jessie Moore scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over East Hill Christian with Kayla Minger getting the assist and Angela Canington netting the shutout with five saves. Port St. Joe then posted a 5-0 win over East Hill. Sara Hoffman had two goals and Stefani Furstenburg, Rachel Jones and Courtney Hermsdorfer one each for the Tiger Sharks. The lone assist was by Cristina Cordova. Canington had three saves.
Port St. Joe, 7-7-1, plays at Rocky Bayou Christian on Tuesday.
Boys basketball
Seahawks go 3-0
CRAWFORDVILLE
Franklin County won two games Saturday to finish the Wakulla holiday tournament with a 3-0 record. After edging Arnold 56-54 on Friday, the Seahawks came back with a 53-50 win over Mariner and 79-65 triumph over Wakulla.
Deshaun Winfield and Carlos Morris each had 16 points and Austin O'Neal 12 against Mariner. Ricardo Baresa had 12 and Javier Rivera 11 for Mariner.
Against Wakulla, Morris had 23 points, Jeremy James 13, Winfield 12 and O'Neal 11. Pacing Wakulla was Tavarus McKinney with 29 points, Wilton Booth with 18 and Tavaris Booth with 10.
The Seahawks are 14-3 and host Maclay on Friday.
Graceville 56, Holmes Co. 55
BONIFAY
Byron Laster scored the winning basket with six seconds left for Graceville. The Tigers were led by Craig Myrick with 19 points and Laster had 14. Aaron Mollett had 16 for Holmes County, Jeremy McGowan had 15 and Jomar Concepcion had 12.
Graceville won the JV game 34-19.
