STOCKTON, Calif. — Oregon sophomore Norman Xiong shot a 4-under-par 68, and Oregon is in sixth place after the first round of the NCAA Stockton men's golf regional on Monday at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
Xiong shot 3-under-par on the back nine and is tied for fourth in the medalist race. Ryan Gronlund shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 27th.
The Ducks shot 1-over 289 in the first round, four shots behind fifth-place Stanford. The top five teams from the regional will advance to the NCAA Tournament in Stillwater, Okla., beginning May 25.
Iowa State shot 278 to lead the team race by three shots over Kansas. The Jayhawks' Daniel Sutton, Stanford's Brandon Wu and UC Davis' Ryan Han each shot 67 to lead the individual race.
