Several local teams and individuals will be looking for a strong second day of play at the AHSAA State High School Golf Championship, which is being played at The Shoals, a Robert Trent Jones course in Florence.

After Monday's opening round, Westbrook Christian sits in second place in the Class 1A-2A boys behind Donoho.

The Warriors shot 328 as a team thanks to a 73 from William Wethington, 79 from Jackson Bowman, 85 from Logan McClendon, 91 from Ridge McHugh and 94 from Jackson Cox.

Wethington's 1-over-par 73 puts him in fourth place individually, four shots behind Jacob Lecroy of Donoho and Codey Cleveland of Red Bay, who both shot a 69.

Cedar Bluff's Nick Sawyer shot a 75 to tie for fifth, and Westbrook's Jackson Bowman is tied for eighth, seven shots back.

Glencoe's boys are third in Class 3A behind Houston Academy, which shot a combined 4 over par as a team, and Providence Christian.

Brock McNeely is leading Glencoe with a 78, Jordan Yancey and Justin Graham each shot 108 and Garrett Fairley added 111.

McNeely is tied for 10th individually.

Etowah's Eli Antisdel is tied for 12th individually in Class 5A boys after shooting an 80.

On the girls side, Glencoe sits in fourth place in Class 1A-3A.

Lauren Cole shot a 77, and Camryn Blackwell and Abby Powell each shot a 120.

Cole is tied for fourth individually, three shots behind the leader.

The final round of the tournament will tee off at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
