One arrested at WHTC on multiple charges
CHIPLEY – A newcomer from Detroit was arrested last week on grand theft and traffic charges after he allegedly tried to steal computer equipment from Washington Holmes Technical Center.
Chipley Police Chief Kevin Crews reported that the call came in about an accident in the parking lot of the technical center at 757 Holt Street on Tuesday, June 23 at about 1 p.m. Upon arriving law enforcement found that a 1997 Plymouth driven by Raymond Lukasik, address listed at 581 Anderson Street in Chipley, had slammed into two other vehicles parked at the center.
Investigation showed that Lukasik had backed up at a high rate of speed and crashed in first one vehicle and then another that was parked next to it. When witnesses approached Lukasik to see if he was all right he “mumbled something” and took off, driving into a fence.
Lukasik was apprehended with computer equipment from the tech center in the vehicle, Crews said, and the vehicle was allegedly being used without permission of the owner. Lukasik is charged with grand theft and grand theft auto, leaving scene of traffic crash with damage, careless driving, no drivers license and improper backing.
Crews said investigation continues into the incident.
