American Pit Bull Terrier Club Hosts Dog Show and Competition in Wausau
WAUSAU - The Mid-Florida/Sunshine State American Pit Bull Terrier Club hosted four conformation shows and two weight pull competitions on Saturday November 26 and Sunday November 27 at the Possum Palace in Wausau, Florida. This was the second competition and show endorsed and hosted by the group in Wausau, and they already have plans to return in March for their Spring 2012 event.
Lisa Hutches, a member and competitor at the event, was interviewed on Real Florida TV, and was pleased with the event this weekend, expressing thanks to the town of Wausau and the surrounding area. ‘We have been welcomed with open arms.’ states Hutches, ‘We have competitors from as far away as the Midwest and the Mid-Atlantic states attend this show and all of these folks have been well pleased with the facility and the hospitality of the area. Many of our competitors left snow behind to attend this event and they are happy to be here, to say the least’.
The Executive Inn in Chipley, Florida reported a full house for Friday and Saturday nights, and several other motels in the Chipley area also reported increased occupancy due to this show. ‘We bring some positive economic impact to the area at a slow time of year,’ states Hutches, ‘and we have found the merchants, restaurant owners and hoteliers very receptive to our event’.
The American Pit Bull Terrier Club works toward education and familiarization of the breed, and the breed was originally called the Staffordshire Terrier, later changed to Yankee Terriers and finally settled on American Pit Bull Terriers. A true athlete, the American Pit Bull Terrier has spirit, loyalty and dedication, and is a great pet as well as companion and working dog.
The ADBA promotes responsible ownership and their goal is to answer questions about the breed and to promote the positive aspects of the American Pit Bull Terrier. The association continues to grow in the US and other countries and is the largest registration office of the American Pit Bull Terrier.
Local business owner Bethany Jordan, owner of The DogSmith in Chipley, Florida, conducted clinics at the event, for dog owners to help determine potential issues with their animals. ‘Sometimes bad behavior by owners of these dogs is responsible for the bad behavior of the dogs, and this clinic helps to show dog owners potential issues with their respective behavior’ stated Jordan. ‘These dogs, among others, sometimes get a bad rap for being overly aggressive and non-people-friendly, when in reality this behavior in large part is simply a reflection of the behavior of the owner of the dog’.
The ADBA registered American Pit Bull Terrier is the #1 breed of dog exhibited in the US today, through conformation dog shows and weight pulling events sponsored by the American Dog Breeders Show Inc. such as the event this weekend in Wausau. Mid-Florida/Sunshine State American Pit Bull Terrier Club members and staff agree that Wausau and Washington County furnish exactly the friendly, inviting atmosphere that the event requires, and plan to make Wausau their destination for future events.
